The first Sheffield Content Club is here!
The first Sheffield Content Club will take place as a fringe event of the Sheffield Digital Festival on 16 May 2019 from 6.30pm. It will be free entry.
We're so pleased to have Site Gallery as our venue for this first Sheffield Content Club. We're going to be in the fantastic project room for the talky parts of the evening before moving to the cafe for the more talky-to-each-other bits. There will be food and drink too – all through the support of Site Gallery and City of Ideas, an Arts Council England and Ambition for Excellence project.
Claire Thornley is a Director at Eleven Design and co-founder of Sheffield's finest culture guide, Our Favourite Places. She'll tell us how a single printed booklet grew to become the go-to place for both tourists and locals on the hunt for all things Sheffield. Fingers crossed, we'll also get to peek behind the scenes to find out how the Our Favourite Places team consistently publish quality content in all its glorious forms.
Lisa Maltby is an independent designer and illustrator with an ace client list that includes the likes of Penguin Random House, Chatsworth House and John Lewis. She also successfully Kickstarted and published The Glorious Book of Curious Cocktails, a disgustingly delicious recipe book for children. In her talk, Lisa will share what she learned from her Kickstarter experience and how she’s been able to apply it to running her business.
For goodness sake – join the club!
Subscribe to the mailing list and be the first to hear when new Sheffield Content Club meetups are on the way. Includes occasional content goodies.
But who is this for?
I know, I know – content is such a broad term that can mean all sorts of different things. But we don’t need to worry about that. If you’re involved in the process of making content of any kind – words, pictures, audio, video – then this is a meetup for you.
Whether you’re a writer, illustrator, designer, podcaster or someone who makes things happen, we’ll come together, share what we know and see if we can build our own little community. And of course, there will be snacks.
What happens at Content Club?
Like most meetups, you’ll get to hear from some fantastic speakers who’ve created some cracking content. They’ll be sharing their work and we’ll be asking them to take us behind the scenes to see how it all got made.
We want you to go away inspired, but also full of practical ideas that you can then use in your own thing, whatever that may be.
Time to get your creative juices flowing. Grab a few people, sit yourselves down and see if you can solve a terribly important content problem. There are no right or wrong answers. And almost certainly no prizes. But it’ll get you talking and, you never know, might lead to something marvellous.
We’re going to rope off a section of wall space where we’ll have two columns. Column one will be for you to offer up your services or types of project you’d like to get involved with. In column two, you can add a specific project, topic or idea that you’re looking for help with. It’s professional matchmaking with Post Its.
Eating, drinking, polite chit-chat
Once all the shenanigans are done, rest assured there will be plenty of time for you to enjoy a beverage, eat something delicious and get down to some good old-fashioned talking to people.
Sheffield Content Club is organised by Iain Broome of Very Meta. Via the marvellous Site Gallery, it is supported by City of Ideas, an Arts Council England Ambition for Excellence project. Whistle Video are going to film the whole shebang for us.
